# Where to Eat in Yukon: Neighbourhoods and Booking Advice

Whitehorse: Downtown

Whitehorse holds most of the Yukon's restaurants, and the highest concentration sits in the compact downtown grid around Main Street and 2nd Avenue, a five-minute walk from the Yukon River waterfront. The 98 Hotel and Dirty Northern Public House both do solid pub fare and are open year-round, seven days a week. For something smarter, the kitchen at the Edgewater Hotel on Front Street is a step up. Baked Café on Main Street roasts its own coffee. Call ahead for a table on Friday or Saturday night; few places here use online booking systems, so a direct call is usually faster than searching for a reservation link.

The Fireweed Community Market at Shipyards Park, Thursday afternoons into the evening from May through September, is worth timing a visit around too, bannock and cold-smoked salmon are regulars among the vendors.

Just outside Whitehorse

A short drive toward Marsh Lake, Northern Lights Resort & Spa offers a fixed multi-course dinner with wine pairings, worth the trip out of town for an occasion meal. Reserve ahead, seating is limited. If you're self-catering rather than eating out every meal, stock up in Whitehorse before heading further afield; grocery options thin out fast once you're on the highway.

Haines Junction

A one-street village at the edge of Kluane National Park, with a couple of genuinely worthwhile stops rather than a full restaurant scene. The Village Bakery, open May through September, does substantial cinnamon buns and sandwiches, a good provisioner before hiking the Auriol Trail. Mount Logan EcoLodge & Retreat Center offers a set dinner menu; tables are limited, so reserve ahead rather than arriving and hoping. Outside those two, food options are genuinely sparse here, plan around what's open rather than assuming a wider selection.

Dawson City

A tiny, seasonal restaurant scene concentrated on Front Street. The Drunken Goat Taverna serves genuinely well-regarded Greek food (often cash-preferred, worth confirming before you go). The Aurora Inn's dining room serves Yukon game like bison and Arctic char. Klondike Kate's does a strong sourdough breakfast, eggs, sourdough toast, and reindeer sausage. Riverwest Bistro, open May through September, is a solid, casual lunch spot. Not every Dawson kitchen follows the same calendar, some run closer to year-round, so confirm directly with a specific restaurant rather than assuming it's closed outside summer.

Reservations are genuinely necessary here from June through August; the town has only a handful of kitchens, and they fill fast with tour groups. Call ahead rather than risk a late arrival with nowhere to eat.
