Cheap hotels in Yukon: how this site works
GoYukonic is a curated guide to sleeping across the whole territory, not just Whitehorse. We cover Whitehorse (Downtown, Riverdale, and the airport strip on Two Mile Hill), Dawson City, Haines Junction and the Kluane gateway, Watson Lake on the Alaska Highway, Carcross, and the smaller stops like Teslin and Beaver Creek. For each area we name the actual hotels people book, from the Edgewater on Main Street to Bombay Peggys in Dawson, and tell you what a fair off-peak price looks like in Canadian dollars.

Where to stay in Yukon
Downtown Whitehorse is the default and rightly so. Everything within a ten-minute walk of Main Street and Second Avenue is walkable in summer: the SS Klondike on the riverfront, Baked Cafe for breakfast, Klondike Rib and Salmon for dinner, the MacBride Museum, and the Yukon River trail. Hotels like the Coast High Country Inn, Best Western Gold Rush, and the Edgewater sit inside this grid. Riverdale, across the Robert Campbell Bridge, is quieter and cheaper but you will want a car.
Dawson City is a different trip entirely: dirt streets, wooden boardwalks, Diamond Tooth Gerties casino, and the ferry across the Yukon River to the Top of the World Highway. Stay at the Downtown Hotel for the Sourtoe Cocktail or Bombay Peggys for character. Haines Junction is small, functional, and the only sensible base for Kluane National Park, Kathleen Lake, and the Auriol Trail. Beds are limited to places like the Raven Hotel and Parkside Inn, so book ahead in July.
What hotels in Yukon actually cost
In Whitehorse, expect CAD 95 to 140 for a standard room in November through April, and CAD 170 to 240 in July and August. The Skky Hotel out by Erik Nielsen Airport tends to be the cheapest option in shoulder season, sometimes under CAD 110. Downtown places like the Coast High Country and the River View push CAD 200 plus in peak. Add roughly 12 percent for GST plus the 5 percent Yukon tourism levy on top of the quoted rate.
Dawson City runs CAD 140 to 260 in summer and drops sharply after the Discovery Day weekend in mid-August. Haines Junction sits at CAD 150 to 210 through summer, less in winter when only a couple of places stay open. Watson Lake and Teslin are cheaper still, often CAD 120 to 160 year-round at the Air Force Lodge or Yukon Motel. Cabins and roadhouse rooms outside town are usually 20 to 30 percent cheaper than in-town hotels but assume no wifi and shared bathrooms.
Getting around Yukon and when to go
You are driving. Rent from Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport, budget CAD 80 to 140 a day plus fuel at roughly CAD 1.75 per litre in Whitehorse and up to CAD 2.20 in remote stops like Beaver Creek. Distances are the story: Whitehorse to Dawson 533 km, Whitehorse to Haines Junction 158 km, Whitehorse to Skagway Alaska 178 km via the South Klondike Highway. There is no train and no useful bus. Whitehorse Transit runs inside town only, CAD 2.50 a ride.
Time your trip around what you actually want. June 21 gets nearly 24 hours of daylight and the Yukon Solstice; the Adaka Cultural Festival lands the same week and hotels fill fast. Aurora season is late August to mid-April, best around Whitehorse and Dawson away from town lights. Yukon Quest sled dog race in February and the Available Light Film Festival also spike Whitehorse rooms. Avoid late May, which is bug-heavy and still muddy, and mid-October if you want the Dempster open.
