The YukonTagish sits on Tagish Lake at the historic Tagish Bridge, a quiet, spread-out hamlet rather than a village with a defined centre. It's part of the Southern Lakes region alongside Carcross and Marsh Lake, connected to the Alaska Highway via Jake's Corner and to Carcross via the South Klondike Highway.
There is no general store and no gas available in Tagish itself. Fuel up before you arrive, in Whitehorse, Jake's Corner, or Carcross, since there's nowhere in Tagish to fill up if you arrive low.

Paddle the Six Mile River
Put in at the Tagish Bridge, paddle upstream a short distance toward Marsh Lake or drift downstream to Tagish Lake. Easy flat water, 2-4 hours. Rentals not available locally — bring your own boat from Whitehorse (Kanoe People rents).
Fish for lake trout on Tagish Lake
Boat launch at the Tagish Beach day-use area off Tagish Road. Lake trout, northern pike, whitefish. Yukon non-resident licence $15/day. Deep water on the west shore; ice-out is usually late May. No fishing charters — this is a bring-your-own operation.
Cinnamon bun at Tagish General Store
Tagish Road at the bridge. The buns are the size of a small dinner plate and everyone stops for one. Also fuel (higher price than Whitehorse), ice, ammunition, and one shelf of DVDs. Open year-round but shorter winter hours.
Watch the water from Ten Mile Point
Small pullout on Tagish Road about 10 km south of the bridge. Wide view down Tagish Lake toward Bove Island and the Bighorn range. Best at sunset in summer, at any time of day in winter when the lake is a sheet of white.
Where to eat
Tagish does have real sit-down dining, contrary to what you might expect from a hamlet this size. Six Mile River Resort runs the River's Edge Dining Room right at the Tagish Bridge, and Southern Lakes Resort, on Ten Mile Road, has its own restaurant as well. Both are worth knowing about rather than assuming you'll need to drive to Carcross or Whitehorse for a proper meal.
Getting around & the essentials
By road: From Whitehorse, take the Alaska Highway south to Jake's Corner (about 50 km), then Tagish Road (Highway 8) east for about 22 km, roughly 75 km and just over an hour total. From Carcross, Tagish is a short drive north along the same road network. There is no fuel or general store in Tagish itself, so fill up before you arrive.

Is there any restaurant in Tagish?
No sit-down restaurant. The general store has hot food some hours (breakfast sandwiches, chili in winter) but it’s not a dining destination. If you want a proper dinner out, drive 30 minutes to Carcross for the Caribou Hotel, or an hour to Whitehorse.
Is Tagish good for aurora viewing?
Excellent. No light pollution, big open lake sky to the north. September-October and February-March are prime. Pick a cabin with a north-facing lake view and you can watch from the porch with a woodstove behind you.
